Why this blog, and how will we use it?

After just two weeks of teaching two sections of Introduction to College Writing, I already have 300+ email messages in my inbox, most of which are lacking subject lines. As The Dude in The Big Lebowski says, "The Dude cannot abide."





I can't abide the amount of email I'm getting. I can't read it, I can't grade it. In many cases, I can't even figure out what question you're responding to.

You all complained when I wanted to set up Twitter as a way of dealing with the volume. 

And so, this blog. When there is a question for a warm-up, it will be posted here. When there is a reflection, you will post it here (unless I specify that it should be in the body of an email that has an assignment attached to it).

Here's how it's going to work:
1. The blog will be open, with the question posted.
2. Click on "comments."
3. Sign in (using your gmail account). 
4. Respond to the question in the comment.
5. Keep calm and carry on.

Sp, let's experiment a bit. In a comment, please answer the following question: What's good about the new system? What problems might we experience? You have five minutes to figure out how to sign in, and to post your response.

    lags and conjestions could be an issue,how ever this could be the easyest way to keep track of the answers.

    this idea is easier because instead of having to go through everybody's email, you can just click on the comments and have everything there for you.

    we dont have to keep emailing stuff to you , where as now you can just go to our blog site and see what ypu need to see. The problem could be that some of the students will forget to blog there work or just not want to do it.

    This is good becuase now we write our comment here and we dont have to sending it to your email and we dont have to be wasting time opening our email.

    I think this is a good system. It makes it easier for you and the students. its very straight forward.

    i think its a good system but then you have the issue of that when we answer questions people are just going to copy off eachother by looking at the previous answers.

    i think this a good idea, so we dont always have to bounce to our email so we can answer another question. Besides the waves of comment scrolling, yes, good idea.

    i think it is good idea because you just gio to website and comment instead composing email and sending and its easier grade cause all comments are there .

    I think that this new blog thing will be easier to respond to your warm ups and other assignments. I think it will be easier because we are able to see and comment on the topic you are talking about. It will also be easier for you to see what each individual is saying and you will know we are commenting on this specific blog.

    I believe this is a easier systen because we cn access this way quicker and we will be able to answer the warm up more efficiently uiosdha;llllllllllllllcwuifaluvjibvl

    I think this new blog will work and it seems like it's very easy to use. Hopefully this makes very easy to keep track of our work, opinions and questions.
